Vida Baca was born and raised in Zuni Pueblo but upon her marriage to Joseph Baca of Santa Clara she moved to his pueblo.
At Zuni her mother, Janice Wyaco, was a jeweler and did not pot. Joseph's mother was deceased at the time of their marriage. So Vida learned to pot by observing her neighbor, Mida Tafoya.
In the photo above, Vida is holding the reason for the revival of her potting career. Vida had ceased to pot for a number of years to take full-time "regular" jobs. But the birth of her son in 2002 (19 years after the birth of her first and only child), caused her to once again stay at home and pot again.
