MYRTLE CATA
SAN FELIPE/SAN JUAN PUEBLOS

Myrtle Cata was born and raised at San Felipe Pueblo, a pueblo with little potting tradition.

In 1980 she married and moved to San Juan Pueblo where there was a tribal Co-Op which offered pottery-making lessons. The teachers at that time were Tina Garcia and Sharon Garcia. Myrtle took the class from these two well known potters and decided to focus on micaeous pottery, a style associated with San Juan Pueblo.

Her fine pottery is evidence of the skills of her teachers and her own considerable talent.
